- What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mind-body conditioning method developed by Joseph H. Pilates with an emphasis on proper breathing techniques to build core strength (TA, internal, exterior obliques and multifidus). In his book, "Return To Life" he describes the awareness of body through movement, mind through conscious thought, resulting in a revitalized spirit crucial to well-being. Joseph Pilates exercises, when performed correctly, have proven to develop optimal strength, endurance and postural awareness without building bulk or stressing your joints.
- Describe the workout.
The body conditioning workout begins with warm up exercises focusing on 5 basic principles. Depending upon your goals & limitations the workout is approximately 50 minutes followed with 5-10 minutes of stretching and relaxing.
- Weekly Recommendations:
Depending upon your goals, 2 - 3 Pilates sessions per week offer profound results if incorporated into your workout regimen for cardiovascular health. Begin feeling your optimal functioning potential and notice immediate benefits: less stress, increased body awareness and better posture.
- Is Pilates for everyone?
This exercise system is designed to strengthen the weak and challenge the strong. It is a perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, athletic training or rehabilitation. Check with your health care professional before beginning any exercise routine.
